Hermit crabs are becoming more widely used not only as a replacement for peelers when out of stock but have become recognised as a great bait to use when fishing for smoothound. They have a ‘sac’ kind of tail which is often hidden away inside the shells in which they live, but once out of the shell you can see the tail, and it is this part of the hermit which attracts the fish. It is filled with juices which give off a really poignant scent when burst and the hermits are becoming more and more popular with shore anglers. The packet contains between 4 and 6 hermits still in teir shell.
