The Horse Mackerel is a member of the Mackerel family, also known as a Scad in some parts. It is completely different in appearance; much lighter in colour and has a white belly. The flesh is much firmer than its relations due to the lower oil content in the body. It is used to catch Pike along with other species and provides a good alternative to Joey and Mini Mackerel. Being a firmer fish than its relations, it is well suited to long range casting.
